Welcome To My MW810 Mobile Workstation Resources

The Motorola MW810 Mobile Workstation is the third-generation computing platform after the MW800 Mobile Workstation.  The MW810 was designed to deliver enhanced performance, connectivity, and usability for mission-critical mobile applications. Built for first responders, public safety teams, and utility field service professionals, the MW810 Mobile Workstation combined rugged, vehicle-mounted reliability with powerful computing capabilities. Featuring upgraded processing power, sharper displays, and expanded wireless LTE options, it enabled seamless communication, real-time data access, and dependable operation in the most demanding environments. Built on the trusted foundation of the 1st generation MW520 Mobile Workstation and the 2nd generation MW800 Mobile Workstation, the MW810 brought modern technology to the front lines.

A brief history of the MW810 Mobile Workstation

The Motorola MW810 Mobile Workstation was introduced as the next-generation successor to the MW800 Mobile Workstation, designed to meet the evolving needs of mobile professionals in law enforcement, emergency services, and utility sectors. Building on the proven modular architecture of the MW800, the MW810 Mobile Workstation offered significant improvements in computing performance, wireless connectivity, and overall usability.

With an estimated MSRP (new, base MW810) around $3000 – $4,500+ (with options easily pushing total significantly higher) Motorola future-proofed the platform. With more powerful Intel Core processors, the initial units came with Windows Vista Business (with XP downgrade rights) on early units. Later units primarily were released with Windows 7 Professional.

All versions had expandable memory, and support for high-speed wireless LTE protocols, including 3G/4G cellular, 802.11 Wi-Fi, and advanced GPS systems. This enabled field personnel to access mission-critical applications and real-time data more quickly and reliably than ever before.

The MW810 Mobile Workstation was built to withstand demanding mobile environments, featuring a ruggedized chassis compliant with MIL-STD-810F and IP54 standards for resistance to extreme temperatures, vibration, shock, and dust. Its 12.1-inch XGA sunlight-readable touchscreen, available with resistive or touch-sensitive input, allowed for easy operation in bright sunlight or while wearing gloves. Flexible input/output options including USB, serial, and CAN bus ports enabled seamless integration with vehicle systems and peripherals such as cameras, sensors, and mobile printers. Enhanced graphics capabilities, with optional discrete GPU support, allowed advanced software applications, including geographic information systems (GIS) and video surveillance platforms, to run efficiently in the field.

The MW810 Mobile Workstation quickly gained traction among public safety agencies and transportation departments seeking a reliable, high-performance in-vehicle computing solution. Motorola also emphasized security, offering optional FIPS-compliant encryption modules and smart card readers for user authentication and other critical features in an era of heightened information security. As agencies increasingly relied on digitized, data-centric operations, the MW810 Mobile Workstation became a key tool for improving operational efficiency, situational awareness, and secure, uninterrupted communication, solidifying its position. I have always been a technology geek at heart, and I was fond of all three mobile workstations I owned as a hobbyists. But, when the MW810 reached end of life around 2017, and Motorola dropped out of the mobile computing market, I was heat broken.
