Motorola XTL Series Radios

The Motorola ASTRO 25 platform, which the XTL Series is part of, first went into production in the early 2000’s. This was a groundbreaking step in the evolution of public safety communications, marking the shift from analog to digital technologies in mission-critical radio systems.

Production of the Motorola XTL Series radios officially ended in 2019, as newer models and upgrades to the ASTRO 25 platform took precedence. However, some of these radios remain a reliable choice for many agencies still using them today.

The Motorola XTL Series offered three models for mobile radios, tailored to meet various operational needs. Notable models included the XTL 1500, 2500 and 5000 in VHF, UHF and 700/800 mhz, each offering different features such as advanced digital trunking and encryption capabilities.

These radios have set a high standard for public safety communications and continue to be respected for their performance and reliability by many communication hobbyist like me.
