The Motorola ASTRO 25 XTL Series radios are widely recognized as a reliable, mission-critical communication tool for public safety professionals. Known for their ruggedness and advanced features, these radios are designed to meet the demanding needs of first responders, law enforcement, and other public safety agencies. They offer clear, secure communication and the interoperability required to coordinate effectively during emergencies.
Basic Features: The Motorola XTL Series radios are built with durability in mind, meeting MIL-STD-810G military standards for shock, dust, and water resistance. They provide high-quality audio even in noisy environments, and their digital platform supports encrypted communications to ensure security. Additionally, these radios are interoperable, allowing communication between different agencies and jurisdictions, a crucial feature for large-scale emergency responses. The Motorola XTL Series is also scalable, meaning agencies can easily expand their communication systems as their needs grow.
When It Was First Produced: The Motorola ASTRO 25 platform, which the XTL Series is part of, first went into production in the early 2000’s. This was a groundbreaking step in the evolution of public safety communications, marking the shift from analog to digital technologies in mission-critical radio systems.
When Production Ended: Production of the Motorola XTL Series radios officially ended in 2019, as newer models and upgrades to the ASTRO 25 platform took precedence. However, these radios remain a reliable choice for many agencies still using them today.
Available Models: The Motorola XTL Series offered three models for mobile radios, tailored to meet various operational needs. Notable models included the XTL 1500, 2500 and 5000 in VHF, UHF and 700/800 mhz, each offering different features such as advanced digital trunking and encryption capabilities.
These radios have set a high standard for public safety communications and continue to be respected for their performance and reliability.
